Recent research shows that while the top 20% of people in terms of income, own 50% of US wealth, their per-capita spend is only 2.1x of the bottom. Interesting read. The one question this piece doesn't cover though is how much of that spend is on credit. I think leaving that out will give a more accurate picture of the real sustainable standards of living of the various segments of population.
